Uptake
Validates student ideas as intellectual capital and extends the chain of inquiry.
According to Nystrand (1997), learning only happens when a teacher's response depends directly on what the student just said. Uptake does exactly this: instead of moving on after a wrong answer, the teacher incorporates the student's exact words or number into the next question, signaling that their contribution is the starting point for deeper exploration — not a dead end.
